I purchased this music system a month ago. Unfortunately it has already failed. The CD unit stopped working. The unit continued to state it was reading a CD. It would not return the CD once pressing eject and so the unit was returned to the retailer and then back to Ruark as no solution could be found. I’m very much hoping that I get my CD back and incredibly disappointed that this happened so quickly to such an expensive unit.

I bought the R3S for our office after suffering intolerably with various iterations of DAB radios from some well-known names. It stands head, shoulders, knees and toes above ANYTHING I have owned previously. Some will balk at the price, but its an incredible device, with a deep resonating sound that fills the room. Solid build quality and very attractive aesthetic – I dont write many reviews, but occasionally something surpasses and excels – as well as being British made -. Truly an independent outlier that is delivering exceptional products. I am a fan.

No question, this is a stunning piece of kit, and in common with so many others, we bought it to replace a Bose Wave Radio, which served us well as a radio alarm, until it gave up the ghost.
The aesthetics of the R3S are delectable: the walnut case and, in our case [sic], the lighter coloured (lead grey) grille are an absolute treat for the eyes.
Of course, this streaming unit is a major upgrade on our old Bose in terms of available sources: DAB+ and FM, Internet Radio, Spotify, optical input – the list goes on and on, plus a CD player!
Setup went like clockwork: it found our Wi-Fi network without a hitch, offered to download and install the latest firmware version, established Bluetooth connections to all devices, Spotify Connect – tick, optical connection to bedroom telly – tick, Octiv mobile app (very cool) – tick.
The soundstage is prodigious with great bass extension and room-filling capabilities, which brings me to my only slight niggle. We like to wake up to speech radio at low volume, which with default EQ settings sounds to my ears, dare I say it, a trifle ‘muffled’. So, I dialled down the bass, cranked up the treble and turned off all the enhancements (Loudness and 3D). All good in the ‘hood. Trouble is, when I load a CD or fire up my Spotify playlist later in the day, I’m after full-fat sound with all the trimmings. The audio settings are ‘global,’ i.e. apply to all input sources. If there was any way, in a future software upgrade perhaps, that one could set up separate audio settings for each input source, all would be perfect in paradise.
Ruark is a class act and this compact music system is a worthy member of their excellent range of products.

I was looking for a radio with a CD player and, thanks to Ruark, my quest was fulfilled.
My home entertainment has not included television for over thirty-five years, but in no way could I do without radio – I now have three Ruark radios.
They give me a wealth of entertainment, with an incredible choice of stations and pure quality sound that is second to none.
Along with style and quality of product there is no question in my mind as to whether this is a five star product.
