I bought this projector as a substitute for a large TV, due to physical injuries that prevent me from lifting and unpacking anything beyond a 43 inch screen.
PROS
1 – Very easy to set up. Auto-focus and keystone correction straightens the screen and adjusts size if the device is slightly off centre.
2 – Ability to create truly cinematic images on a wall up to 120 inches wide. All in sharp and clear HD quality.
3 – Good sound quality from the rear facing speaker. It sounds excellent if you connect third party Bluetooth speakers.
4 – Menus on Google TV OS are very simple and swift to navigate, without lag. All UK catch-up channels, video on demand services, and even music streaming and digital radio apps are included, making this a very versatile unit.
CONS
1 – You’ll need a dark room for it to work, but still looks good with low levels of ambient light.
2 – Default settings result in poor brightness levels for dark scenes. But this can be solved through manual adjustment (Click = Settings’ – ‘Picture’, ‘Advanced Settings’, then ‘Custom’. Turn up ‘Black Level’ and ‘Contrast’ from 50 to 60 or more).
3 – A large amount of space is required to produce the largest screen sizes. For instance, to achieve a 71 inch long wide image (equivalent to an 80 inch TV), if measured diagonally) the projector needs to be placed 85 inches away from a wall.
4 – You should avoid placing the projector within an enclosed space, such as on a bookshelf, as that will cause overheating. At least 6 inches around the back is needed, so the built in fan can circulate cool air.
CONCLUSION
Given the very reasonable price, the quality of this product is amazing! Although the picture is not quite as sharp or bright as my new Samsung 43 inch 4K TV, it’s not far off. A very impressive unit at a modest price and highly recommended.
