Bought this ASUS Chromebook for our 7-year-old to support homework and learning. It replaced a VTech “My First Laptop” (advertised around ages 7–12), which unfortunately turned out to be far too basic for our child and didn’t last very long. In hindsight, upgrading to a proper Chromebook has been a much better long-term solution.
From both a usability and technical point of view, this Chromebook is ideal for children moving onto real school learning. Chrome OS is lightweight, boots quickly, and is simple enough for kids to navigate without constant help. It feels much closer to what they use in school, which helps build genuine digital skills rather than just basic games.
Parental controls through Google Family Link are a standout feature. As a slightly protective dad who likes to keep tech safe and sensible, being able to manage screen time, approve apps, and filter websites gives real peace of mind while still allowing access to proper educational content and school platforms.
Battery life has been excellent and easily lasts through homework sessions and general use. The laptop is lightweight but still feels sturdy enough for daily use by a child, which is important when it’s being carried around or used regularly.
Another major advantage is flexibility. Unlike some closed learning devices where extra content needs to be purchased, this Chromebook gives access to a wide range of educational apps, school resources, and learning websites, many of which are free and far better suited to primary school learning.
Setup was straightforward, and disabling guest mode and restricting additional logins helped keep everything secure and child-friendly (dad tech-protector mode fully activated).
Most importantly, homework now gets done every evening without problems and our child is far more engaged with learning.
Very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to parents looking for a safe, reliable, and future-proof first laptop for school use.
